Schubert’s Finest Hour - Kent

The String Quintet in C Major, arranged for two violins, a viola, and two cellos, is considered one of the finest pieces in chamber music. Composed in September 1828, in the last weeks of Schubert's life, this Quintet was his final instrumental work and stands as one of his most significant achievements. Bychoosing a second cello, Schubert transformed the craft of string composition, creating sounds previously unheard in a small string ensemble.
